Tomorrow I start my incredible 4 week adventure down under, and I could not be more thrilled. The biggest challenge I have had to overcome in preparing for this trip is packing with one backpack! With 12 flights in 4 weeks, the last thing you want is a lot of luggage to check. Waiting to retrieve your luggage between flights adds hours to each trip, so a fashionista like myself definitely had some trouble adjusting to :
- 1 pair of leggings, 2 pairs of shorts
- 4 t-shirts, 2 long sleeves
- 1 bikini, 2 towels
- 1 practical hat
- 1 pair of runners and 1 pair of flip flops
- 1 rain jacket and a fleece
- limited socks and underwear !
When preparing to travel a country which cities range in temperatures of 5-30 degrees, I've had to pack for all kinds of weather conditions.
A few tips I've learned from fellow backpackers:
- Bringing 1 colorful scarf can go a long way- use it as a bathing suit wrap, give yourself some privacy in shared accommodations, dress up any outfit, and even protect against the sun
- Don't forget to buy a universal charger for your ipod, cellphone or camera
- Begin chewing gum as the plane takes off to limit 'ear popping'
- and whatever you do - keep your important documents close! A fanny pack or lanyard type of wallet may not be your trendiest look; however, losing your passport in a foreign country is the last dilemma you want to run into on vacation.

I can only imagine I'll have difficulty sleeping tonight !
